Why would anyone pick Netflix over Amazon Prime?

Lets see.
Amazon Prime has just as many or more movies and shows as Netflix.
Amazon is cheeper. $79 per year vs over $105 a year.

And then to top it all off after all that you get free shipping on most of your purchases on Amazon if you are a member of Amazon prime.

Can someone help me out here?
I have never been a Netflix subscriber so I may be overlooking something that I have not thought of.

I speak purely from the streaming angle and not the DVD/BLURAY angle.
I completely understand why someone would want to subscribe to the DVD in the mail thing if you are a movie buff.

But I cant understand why anyone would rather have Netflix instead of Amazon prime if you are just doing it for the streaming service.

I am not a movie buff per say.
I probably watch 1 movie a week in house.
Do most of my movie watching at the theater when the GF wants to go.

If not for the free shipping for Amazon I probably would not even have the Amazon Prime.

But with the little research I have done I come to find out AP has virtually every movie and TV show Netflix has and then some.
You can also rent free books for your kindle and the free shipping for only $79 a year.

I dont understand why Amazon has not put Netflix completely out of business.

You can pay the $79 per year and still have to pay $1.99 for each episode of Breaking Bad you want to watch. NetFlix's streaming has far more content, and is included in the monthly bill. A lot of the Amazon Prime content cost extra above and beyond the subscription price.

I bet there are a lot of this or that's with NF vs AP.

Im sure there are some shows that are free on AP that cost extra or not downloadable at all on NF and vice versa.

On the movie front it seems like both services are almost identical to each other.

I went through both databasess on both services and typed in about 100 movies.
I think in almost every case except for one they either both had the movie or both did not have the movie.

I would really like to get a good user friendly list of what each has one vs the other.

For me the free shipping is worth $79 a year alone.
I would have AP even if they did not have the streaming service.

If you buy a lot of stuff from Amazon, Prime will pay for itself and the streaming service would be just a bonus.

I'm very happy with NetFlix and I often recommend it every opportunity I get. I got mad when they jacked up the prices and dropped them for a few months, but like so many other people, I went back to them with my tail between my legs.

Both Suck.

Amazon Prime only has very small selection to choose from.
It's free for students for 6 months, I never used it once. Terrible selection.

Netflix overcharged me $118 and still hasn't credited me for it. TERRIBLE customer service.

I would suggest Hulu Plus for tv shows and renting from Redbox for movies.

So I guess the verdict should be if you are not a huge movie buff but buy a lot of stuff on Amazon get AP.
If you are a huge movie buff and you buy a lot on Amazon get both.

If you are just a big movie buff and dont order things from amazon get NF.

In that case I made the right pick for me.

NFLIX over AMZN any day. I believe DTV has an amazon app built in so you don't even need to hook up the lap top anymore.

Chop, I find the biggest benefit of Amazon that you don't pay taxes on big ticket items.

With amazon Prime your guaranteed 1-2 day shipping, 99% of the time the item comes from an in state retailer and you have to pay state sales tax.

Defeats the benefits of Amazon....

Does Amazon Prime mail movies or only stream?

If they only stream, it is way better watching movies on a large screen.

Doesn't Hulu Plus still air commercials? I have never had H+ but that is what I heard. Also, I don't know about Amazon but netflix u can have 3 different IP address' share one account - thats a plus (in my mind at least)

bwhahahhaa

honestly a MAC and me makes no sense my friend :D

but I could probably walk u through it if u gave me make/model of comp and what web broswer u use.. a picture of back of ur laptop/comp so I can see the plugins.. and then make/model of tv and pic too (but the pics I can find online obviously if u give me exact info)

then I can come up with a way for u to be able.. also the distance of ur tv from ur laptop/comp (for cord size reasons and/or recommendations on certain methods)
